Last September my family and I headed off to Florida for a family vacation. We were driving, and I wanted to make sure we chose the best route for our trip, so I was talking to my brother who has made the drive many times. He told me the way they like to go, and then he suggested I check out TripTiks at CAA. He said it would be very helpful, and I trust his judgement, so I checked it out.

CAA had a lot of complementary planning resources for CAA Members including customized maps, tour guides and TripTik route planners to help you take the scenic route or get there quickly. You can search for flights, hotels, car rentals, vacation packages and cruises, and get membership rates for them. Tourbooks are available online and in print to help you plan your trips too. With a click of a button, you can find out about road conditions, road construction, traffic cameras, weather and road closures.

Then I tried the TripTik Travel Planner. With this, I could enter in our starting point and our destination and get some routes for our trip. After doing that, I could choose what I want to see on my map, including gas stations, restaurants, hotels, etc. When I zoomed in I could see where there was road work on our route, which ultimately helped us choose our path. It is a great useful travel tool, and I will absolutely be using it again.

TripTiks also has drive tips, where you can find out your estimated driving time, the mileage count for your trip, see photos and get a detailed narrative of your trip. And of course, you can purchase some travel insurance from the TripTiks page. It’s the perfect place to plan any trips you may have planned.

  1. Wow! TripTiks have come a long way! I can remember my parents ordering a printed TripTik for our drive to Florida in 1987. Great to see them online now 🙂

  2. You don’t even have to sell me on TripTiks. I grew up with them when they were spiral bound paper maps with green markers outlining the route! (Of course over here it’s AAA.)

  3. Very cool I know I hate driving when I’m not familiar with the area I like the idea of being able to chose scenic if you are not in a hurry.

  4. My mother always stopped by AAA and got a map for our upcoming road trip. I love that they have withstood technological advances!

  5. I will most definitely be trying this the next time we go on a road trip. We’ve gone on a couple of 3 week long road trips and I sure wish I knew about this then. Thanks

  6. Ive never heard of this before – the title just caught my eye as I was browsing through the blog. Very cool indeed – I do travel often, so this is something I would use for sure

  7. I never heard of Triptik. It is nice that it guides you towards scenic routes. That is helpful to make the drive more pleasant!

  8. I haven’t heard of Triptik before but will certainly look into it for future road trips! It seems super convenient and useful!

  9. Wow that’s not the same trip tick I used back in the day. What a great resource to have when traveling.
