While we love to go to Disney World, not everyone in my family loves rides. My twenty year old son and my ten year old son prefer to find their enjoyment in more tame activities, and that is a trait they share with their Nana (my Mother). In forty years, despite many trips to amusement parks, theme parks and fairs, I had never seen my Mother go on a ride. I knew she didn’t like them and we never pushed her to go outside of her comfort zone. Earlier this month my Mom and niece accompanied my daughter and I when we went to Disney World for the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration.

My niece, daughter and I all love rides so we always had someone to ride with, but since I know that Disney rides are more than just thrills, I wanted Mom to try some of them with us. She wasn’t sure about Splash Mountain, since it appears to be just a roller coaster, but she did go on with us and other than the two little drops (okay, I think they’re little) she enjoyed it.

Here are some rides and attractions that are safe choices for non-riders:

In the Magic Kingdom

  • Liberty Square Riverboat
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (spinning is optional in this ride)
  • It’s a Small World
  • Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Haunted Mansion (my young children were frightened by this, but it is great for brave kids and people who don’t like thrill rides)
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Prince Charming Regal Carrousel
  • Swiss Family Treehouse
  • Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover
  • Carousel of Progress
  • Enchanted Tiki Room

Epcot

  • Soarin’ (this does simulate flying so if you don’t like heights, this may not be the ride for you)
  • Test Track (it moves fast, but it’s not scary)
  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Turtle Talk with Crush
  • Living with the Land

Hollywood Studios

  • Star Tours (this is another simulation where you will feel like you are flying at times)
  • Toy Story Mania
  • Fantasmic
  • Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show
  • Beauty and the Beat Live on Stage
  • Disney Junior Live on Stage
  • Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
  • The Great Movie Ride
  • Studio Backlot Tour

Animal Kingdom

  • Kilimanjaro Safaris Expedition
  • Finding Nemo – The Musical
  • It’s Tough to be a Bug (my bug phobia kicks in a bit at this show…but only for a second)
  • Dinosaur (there are a couple of startling spots in this ride)

These are the just the rides and attractions that my family has had a chance to try, so you can see there are many things to do even if rides are not your thing. There is always so much to do at Disney!

  1. Love your picture together, everyone looks so happy! This is a great post and I love the tips. While we are a family of riders there are a few of those in our extended family who prefer not to ride. Next time we go with them I’ll have to print out this list for them! I pinned it so I can remember to do so and share with others.

  2. thanks for the info. We are headed to Disney this summer but I’m suffering from vertigo that won’t go away so I don’t think I can enjoy the BIG rides.

  3. What a great list, but I’d have to disagree on Star Tours…I have to take a good dose of Dramamine before I ride that one!

  4. Great photo! I like gentle rides like Pirates of the Carribean and Small World, but I’m so sensitive to movement that I can’t do anything at all wild because I will be unsteady for at least a whole day afterwards!

  5. I love rides, but you’re right; there’s a ton to do at Disney for people who don’t like fast attractions.

  6. I don’t do roller coasters and still have a blast at Disney World, there really is so much more to do than just rides!

  7. Reading this post just makes me want to go to DisneyWorld even more. I’ve been to Disneyland countless times, but never Disney World.

  8. Disney is such a wonderful place – there honestly IS something for EVERYONE to see/do there, no matter your age!

I have been there twice when I was younger, and I would love to go back now to see the changes and enjoy that experience again 🙂

  13. I’ll keep these in mind when I get the chance to actually go to Disney! I’m not big on rides. I usually watch my hubby and son and take pictures. 🙂

  14. What a fantastic list! Thank you so much for sharing it. We haven’t been to Disney yet … but maybe someday!

  15. I LOVE rides, but last time we went to Disneyland my son refused to go on all but 4 rides. It was still fun though!

  16. This is good to know. I don’t think my daughter would do rides well, considering she cries at Chuck E Cheese.

  17. I like the slow rides. Can’t go the roller coasters or anything that spins. When we took our kids when they were little they did all the rides with their Dad. I did a selected few. But I enjoyed the trip and Disney.

  18. I love rides but it’s my hubby who doesn’t. Hoping once baby is older she’ll be a dare devil like mommy 🙂 Can’t wait to take her to Disney!

  19. I love all the rides! We just got back from Disney and was excited that my kids braved a few more of the “bigger rides”.

  20. Thanks for the fantastic lists! We are saving towards a trip to Disney. I have severe motion sickness though so I will definitely keep this list on hand to decide which rides we can enjoy! Thanks!

  21. What a great list! My mom doesn’t like rides either but was able to go on quite a few things when we were at WDW. Glad you ALL had fun!

  22. Congrats on getting your mom on a ride! 🙂 And I so need to go to Disney and check out all of the things they have there.

  23. I’ve been to Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show with my parents. My dad especially liked it. They also had an american idol one at Hollywood studios before. People auditioned and sang. The girl who won was AMAZING! 🙂
