Thank you to The Palm Beaches and Hilton for hosting my family. All opinions are my own.

After two days on the road with three kids, the bright lobby of The Hilton Garden Inn Palm Beach Gardens was a welcome sight. Located in Palm Beach County, the hotel has a luxurious coastal aesthetic with exotic gardens that fit the overall feel of the Palm Beaches. With a one-mile walking path around the area, two footbridges leading to downtown and just across the street from The Gardens Mall, there is plenty around to keep guests busy. For those in search of a central location to the beaches and theme parks, Palm Beaches is just a two-hour drive to Orlando or Miami. Even more convenient, Florida’s new Brightline train service is currently running from West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale and Miami, with future plans to connect in Orlando.

Our suite offered plenty of space and two washrooms, perfect for a family with teenagers, with a view of the pool and Lake Victoria. It is just one of seventeen deluxe suites at the hotel. As a 4-star hotel in the Palm Beaches, it is surprising to learn that the nightly rates start at under $200. The guest rooms are currently undergoing a $5-million enhancement that should be complete in late November 2018.

Before settling in for the night, we visited the on-site restaurant, The Garden Grille, for some wood fired pizza. It rivaled any pizza we have had! The restaurant also offers daily breakfast at a cost and full-service meals throughout the day.

As a former social worker, I have a keen interest in companies that promote community involvement. I met with Jason, a member of the sales team for The Hilton Garden Inn Palm Beach Gardens and asked him how their hotel gets involved. He told me about the job shadowing program that they offer for students in the area, that has led to paying jobs in the future for some of these kids. They won the award for Top Business Partner for community partnership for students for this program. They have also sponsored or had partnerships with the Palm Beach International Raceway and the two local baseball stadiums that not only host MLB teams, but also offer space for minor league and youth teams to play.

With so many athletic connections, I wished my husband had been able to come along. He is an avid sports fan and would have enjoyed these connections and the several golf courses nearby. When we heard that Tiger Woods and Rick Fowler live in the area we attempted to play a joke on my husband and tell him we came across Tiger Woods at a local restaurant. Unfortunately, he didn’t fall for it as he knew that Tiger was playing in a tournament at the time.

The kids and I didn’t need to enjoy baseball or golf to find ways to be active in Palm Beaches. We visited the State Park and the beach and had opportunities to go kayaking, paddle boarding or canoeing. We went to a waterpark for the day as well, which is where I discovered my waterproof pouch for my phone was no longer waterproof. The phone died and would not turn on again.

When we returned to the hotel, I told the desk staff about my phone and asked if there was any way I could try the dry rice trick to revive it. He went to the restaurant and returned within minutes with a bag of dry rice. Good news, it works! I did have to reset the phone, but the rice dried it out over about 24 hours.

This wasn’t the only example of exemplary service. Having picked out something from the small market store in the lobby, I approached the desk to dig my money out of my purse. I’m height challenged and had to stand on my toes to try and see in my purse when it was on the counter and I commented about it saying, “I’m a little short.” The man behind the desk immediately asked me how much money I had and said he could work with me, thinking I meant I was short on cash. I laughed and explained the mix-up, but I was impressed with his response when he thought I didn’t have enough cash on me.

Overall, we enjoyed our time at the Hotel Garden Inn at the Palm Beach Gardens. The kids loved the pool and the location was ideal for a Florida vacation.
