After checking out the website, I was pretty anxious to get to the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort. The beach is beautiful and being steps away was definitely something I was looking forward to! We arrived early and had a chance to wander around and check things out. The resort has an Mediterranean feel to it that I like. Instead of big curtains on the windows there are wooden vertical blinds, and there are beach and shell pictures throughout the resort. The common areas include a lobby/games room, an area to play ping pong, a room with video games that Kellen loved, a gym, the pool area and the green area. At night there are two fire areas to sit around as well.
There are several amenities available at the resort, including bicycles, beach chairs and umbrellas, boogie boards and sand toys. A free breakfast is available on Sunday and Monday mornings, but you need to get there right at 9am if you would like to take advantage of it…there are hungry people at the Carlsbad Inn! Free coffee is served in the lounge every morning, and if you prefer to have your coffee in your room, there is a Keurig and some K-cups available in your room.
The rooms had more than a fancy coffee maker though. My room was equipped with a mini fridge, a microwave, a desk and of course a television and seating area. There was a patio with two chairs and a table as well. Our screen door was broken, but we did leave the door open and didn’t get any uninvited bug guests in the room. The washroom had a deep tub and lots of counter space, and the Inn is environmentally responsible and encourages the reuse of towels in the rooms. The beds were comfortable, and the pillows were awesome. Something I really loved was that free Wifi is provided to the guests. My only big complaint about the room was the air conditioning unit. It was extremely loud, and when I asked at the desk if they were all that loud, I was told that they were all the same. We didn’t run it at night or we wouldn’t have been able to sleep.
Kellen was excited about the games room (actually called the Garden Room, but it is a room with video games in it) and the ping pong table. He played his first game of ping pong there, and while we spent more time picking the ball up off of the ground than hitting it back and forth, it was still a lot of fun.
The swimming pool and hot tub was the highlight for Kellen. It is a salt water pool, so there are no harsh chemicals, and pool noodles could be signed out of the activity room. There was also a hot tub just for adults in a separate area.
